The crawler

MarkupBot

It reads public pricing pages, nothing else. This page is the policy it operates under — non-negotiable.

Policy

The rules it follows

MarkupBot identifies itself on every request:

User-Agent: MarkupBot/1.0 (+https://markupwatch.com/bot)

  • It fetches and honours robots.txt, cached for 24 hours per host. A disallow stops tracking, and the product page then says so plainly.
  • One page per product per day at most — typically far less, thanks to backoff.
  • Only public pricing pages. Never anything behind a login, paywall or interstitial.
  • It never circumvents a block. A 403 or bot challenge means back off and disable, not rotate.
  • It respects Retry-After and 429 responses.

Opting out

Email bot@markupwatch.com and tracking is disabled within one business day. The product page will state that the vendor asked not to be tracked.

What gets published

Facts: prices, dates and plan terms, plus a link to the archived capture supporting them. Not your copy, not your design, not your images. Vendor names and logos are used only to identify the product being described.
